I bought this beautiful djembe of Genu (Hare, balafon wood) from a guy in Bamako. This is now the only djembe I have at my new place. Actually I haven't played it for a couple of weeks now. Then yesterday I sat down and started hitting a piece of wood used for cooking... And I also said I will play the wood again tomorrow - I can't play the djembe in the apartment. Then this morning I get up and find the djembe skin in this state. I have never seen a skin break in this way - right on the middle of the goat's back.
Actually it reminds me of a book I've been reading the last month "Chinua Achebe: Things fall apart". It says that somewhere in some village people are so afraid of the snakes that they don't say the word "snake" when it is dark. Instead they use the word "rope". So maybe I should also try not to say stupid things in front of this djembe:) I'll try to give it a nice talk this evening:)
